Cartoons Are for Children?

So I found this on the Internet:

and decided to go on a rant about cartoons!

First off, people who think “anime” is for children don’t know what it really is: an art style, not a genre. While there are anime directed at children, it is most often directed at adults. One easy way to know this is to realize that a sizable portion of anime is actually porn. There’s a lot more to say about it, of course, but I’ve never been much of a fan. Not that I automatically dislike anime; I was just never into it, despite enjoying a few shows of the style.

Second, as the speaker in the picture clearly knows, Frozen is made for a child audience. However, I would argue that the very fact that Frozen is so popular, even among adults, is powerful evidence that films can be made that are enjoyable for a wide age range of people.

Indeed, I would even go so far as to say that a children’s film that doesn’t speak to adults, that can’t be enjoyed by adults, isn’t worthy of children, either.

This is not to say adults should watch children’s movies, or that there should not be adult movies. My point is simply that children are deserving of good stories, too.
